Download JDK 1.6 for Mac: How to Install the Java Development Kit on Your Mac

I want to install a specific JDK (the latest for example). For this, I went to the JDK download homepage: looked for a Mac version, but I'm a bit surprised to only see downloadable versions for Linux, Windows and Solaris...

If you still want to use an old version you can find more information in the Maven Releases History and can download files from the archives for versions 3.0.4+ and legacy archives for earlier releases.

download jdk 1.6 for mac

These downloads are intended for established users, and contain the latest IBM fixes and Oracle updates to the Java SE application programming interfaces (APIs). To take advantage of new capabilities in the SDK, users are encouraged to move to the latest version.

There are several package choices. Note that you can install the features from any package into any other package. If you are, for example, planning to do mostly Java development and some C/C++ development, you should download the Eclipse IDE for Java Developers and then add the C/C++ development tools via the "Help > Install New Software..." menu option.

The download will be delivered as a compressed (i.e. a ".zip", or ".tar.gz") file. Decompress this file into the directory of your choice (e.g. "c:\eclipse" on Windows) and ensure you have full Read and Execute permissions. You can optionally create a shortcut of the executable file ("eclipse.exe" on Windows, or "eclipse" on Linux).

Note that there is a known problem with the built-in decompression utility on all current versions of Windows. We recommend that you use a more robust decompression utility such as the open source 7zip when decompressing an Eclipse download. Some people report success when initially decompressing Eclipse into a root directory (e.g. c:\) and then moving it to a more appropriate home (e.g. c:\Program Files\Eclipse)

As a simple test, open a Command Prompt window, move to the directory that is pointed to by the -vm argument in your eclipse.ini, and run the intended java.exe with the -d32 switch to test if it supports 32-bit, or -d64 to test for 64-bit support. It's often simplest to download a version of Eclipse that will work with whatever Java you already have installed.

Eclipse downloads are not password protected. This is a known problem with the built-in decompression utility on all current versions of Windows. We recommend that you either download the installer or use a more robust decompression utility such as the open source 7zip when decompressing an Eclipse download. Some people report success when initially decompressing Eclipse into a root directory (e.g. c:\) and then moving it to a more appropriate home (e.g. c:\Program Files\Eclipse)

A: Like other applications such as Dreamweaver or Creative Suite, PDF Studio requires Java 6 in order to run. During the upgrade process to Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite or 10.11 El Capitan, Java may be uninstalled from your system. In order to reinstall and run PDF Studio you will need to install the Java 6 Runtime again. You may receive a dialog that will direct you to the site where you can download the Java 6 Runtime. Once installed you can proceed as normal with installing and using PDF Studio. You can follow the instructions below to complete the Java 6 installation.

Apple provides us with Java 6 for some reason (which is no longer updated by Oracle and is considered deprecated). Oracle provides us with both Java 7 and 8, but offers no easy way to download updates without an account, jumping though EULAs etc.

Officially, it is important that you verify the integrityof the downloaded files using the PGP signatures (.asc file) or a hash (.sha512 files). The PGP keys used to sign this release are available here.

Due to limited intellectual property protection and enforcementin certain countries, the JDK source code may only be distributedto an authorized list of countries. You will not be able to accessthe source code if you are downloading from a country that is noton this list. We are continuously reviewing this list for additionof other countries.

From time to time it may be necessary to flush SDKMAN!'s local state. The flush command helps with this and allows for the following to be performed: Flush storage $ sdk flush This flushes out all archives and the temporary storage folder, but not the broadcast cache. Broadcast $ sdk flush broadcast Clears out the broadcast cache, downloading the latest available news on next command invocation. Archives $ sdk flush archives Cleans the cache containing all downloaded SDK binaries. This can take up a lot of space so is worth clearing out from time to time! Temporary Folder $ sdk flush tmp Clears out the staging work folder used when installing new versions of candidates and SDKMAN! itself.

To download, visit this page, accept the license agreement, and then select the link next to your distributionin the first list of downloads. E.g., for Mac OSX, I would select jdk-8u25-macosx-x64.dmg. Once that downloads, follow all of the instructions in the installer.
